Day Trip

Today I took a day trip to the nearest nearby centre of any size to Iona, the town of Oban (pop. 8,000).

Getting to Oban is a 2.5 hour trek from Iona via ferry, then bus, and then ferry again so it was a long day all undertaken for the purposes of opening a UK bank account. I did maximize on being in civilization and the 6 hour gap between ferries with a number of activities, including:

1) visiting some charity shops. In Canada the closest equivalent we have to these are thrift stores...but really besides the fact that they both sell used goods, the profits of which go to a good cause, the similarity stops there. Charity shops here are really well organized, full of really nice things, full of great displays, and give an overall pleasant shopping experience all while buying cheap, previously used things....awesome!

Look at my cool newly acquired pink vest:

2) Having a cup of tea with a scone at a tea house (I ate the scone so fast, there was not time for a picture).

3) Eating lunch on a bench by the smelly sea, overlooking a peaceful scene:

And when it was all over on the ferry, I turned on my ipod, made a pillow for myself out of my newly acquired sweaters, kicked up my heels and enjoyed the view:
